Istanbul Research Fellowships

Announcing The Urban Research Lab Fellowship

The Alliance will offer substantial research fellowships of $2,500 to students demonstrating outstanding dedication and intentionality in their proposed research project as it pertains to their long-term academic, professional, and personal goals. All award decisions are based on academic merit.

In order to apply for an Alliance research fellowship, you must first complete your application. You will access and submit a fellowship essay form online among your application pieces.

Creative research topics in the social sciences and humanities are welcome. Your research proposal will not be finalized until meeting with your Alliance faculty advisor upon arrival in Istanbul, but feel free to contact your Program Advisor, Kerry Springer, at kspringer@ifsa-butler.org or 317-940-4248 to discuss your current ideas.

Students who are awarded an Alliance research fellowship will be required to provide regular written and multimedia updates via the Alliance’s official blog throughout their semester in Istanbul, and to present their research process and findings in a public forum upon return to their home campus.

Note: Alliance fellowships are only awarded to students who attend the Alliance program in Istanbul. Unfortunately, we do not award fellowships to students attending non-Alliance programs.

Students seeking financial aid should also speak with the study abroad and financial aid offices at their home institutions about taking scholarships and federal aid with them while studying overseas. Additional funding opportunities can be found here.
