Small-scale Explosion in Pune

On Thursday, July 10th, there was a small-scale explosion near Dagdusheth Ganapati Temple in Pune.  All Pune students and staff are safe, and are currently outside of the city on an overnight village excursion. The Alliance will continue to monitor the situation and take any necessary precautions to ensure our students’ safety.

Maharashtra Train Accident

There was a train derailment in the state of Maharashtra, south of Mumbai, on Sunday, with 19 estimated fatalities and dozens injured. All Pune and Manipal students are safe and accounted for.

Blasts at Chennai Train Station

There were two low-intensity explosions at the Chennai Central Railway station today, Thursday, May 1, with one fatality and at least 10 injuries. Chennai is in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and no Alliance students are in the vicinity. All are safe and accounted for, and we do not anticipate any disruptions to our India programs.

Incidents of Violence in Xinjiang Region

Update:

There were a series of explosions at a market in Urumqi, Xinjiang province, China, early this morning (Thursday, May 22nd) that have resulted in an estimated 31 fatalities.  No Alliance students were in the area, and all Alliance students are safe and accounted for.  The Alliance will continue to monitor the unrest in the area and take any necessary precautions to ensure our students’ safety.

Terrorist Attack in Kunming, China (Yunnan Province)

Update: 

The Alliance has been carefully monitoring news and security outlets in light of the March 1st terror attack in Kunming. At this time, we see no reason to cancel our upcoming field study trip to Yunnan province, and plan to proceed as scheduled.  Alliance staff will be implementing standard safety protocols prior to and during the trip, and have taken additional special measures in Kunming given the recent events.

The Alliance for Global Education Becomes a Division of IFSA-Butler

The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University and the Institute for Study Abroad, Butler University (IFSA-Butler) today announced jointly that they have signed an agreement in which the Alliance for Global Education, Washington, DC, will become entirely a division of IFSA-Butler.
